The Ohio State University unveils new undergraduate major in experiential media design
In response to the evolution of design practices and the escalating demand for interactive designers, The Ohio State University Department of Design is thrilled to announce the experiential media design major (XMD). The new major aims to prepare the next generation of professional designers to thrive in the sectors of interactive entertainment and gaming. Students pursuing the XMD major will also learn how to integrate design principles and gain proficiency in utilizing state-of-the-art media technologies.
“There are currently no design programs in our region that offer this specialized professional path. We are committed to enhancing our graduates' attractiveness to prospective employers, both regionally and nationally,” said Fabienne Münch, chair of the Department of Design.
This new major draws on the strengths of the department’s successful existing undergraduate design programs and offers students a comprehensive first-year design foundation course, which equips them with essential skills and the foundational tools needed across all design disciplines.
Ohio State’s design programs are distinguished by their commitment to socially relevant, research-driven practices that emphasize creativity and collaboration, and XMD shares these similarities with the department’s three long-standing successful undergraduate design majors.
