Logan featured in PBS NewsHour segments on coronavirus-related racial disparities
PBS NewsHour featured Trevon Logan, professor of economics and associate dean, in a two-part segment on the racial disparities in health and economics as illuminated by the coronavirus pandemic.
The segments, which aired July 15 and 16, include an interview with Logan as well as clips from his 2019 TEDx Talk on historic housing segregation and urban revitalization.
“Wealth actually has receded for African Americans since the last Great Recession, and in fact the wealth disparities are larger than they were 20 years ago,” Logan said in the first segment.
Part two tackled the disturbing trend of higher COVID-19 death rates among African Americans.
“Factor one would be essential worker employment,” Logan said. “A second factor would be density of living arrangements and higher rates of public transportation use.”
