Grinstead appointed chair of Department of Spanish and Portuguese

John Grinstead, professor and interim chair in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese, has been appointed chair of the department for a four-year term, effective July 1, 2022. Grinstead, who is courtesy-appointed in the Department of Linguistics and the Department of Speech and Hearing Science, has been with Ohio State since 2004 and is a scholar of language development in typically developing Spanish-speaking children, as well as in children with developmental language disorder. His current projects investigate the development of syntax, semantics, pragmatics and their interfaces. He has published two edited volumes on developmental linguistics and recently published studies in Journal of Speech, Language and Hearing Research, the journal Language and in Applied Psycholinguistics. He was an associate editor for Language Acquisition: A Journal of Developmental Linguistics from 2008-2015. Grinstead earned his MA in teaching English as a second language and his PhD in applied linguistics from UCLA.
