Four faculty members in the Ohio State College of Arts and Sciences have been named on the annual Highly Cited Researchers 2020 list from Clarivate.

The list identifies researchers who demonstrated significant influence in their chosen field or fields through the publication of multiple highly cited papers during the last decade. Their names are drawn from the publications that rank in the top 1% by citations for field and publication year in Clarivate’s Web of Science citation index.

The Arts and Sciences faculty members are:

  • Andrew Hayes, professor in the Department of Psychology. Hayes’ research includes statistical approaches to assessing mediation, moderation and the contingencies of mechanisms.
  • Matthew Sullivan, professor in the Department of Microbiology. Sullivan’s research focus is on the co-evolution of microbe and virus in environmental populations, as well as the impact of marine phages on microbe-mediated global biogeochemistry. He is also director of the new Center of Microbiome Science and director of the Genetic Diversity and Adaption team of the National Science Foundation-funded EMERGE Biology Integration Institute.
  • Julian Thayer, professor emeritus in the Department of Psychology. Thayer's area of specialization is psychophysiological aspects of self-regulation, particularly physical and mental health — including hypertension, anxiety and depression.
  • David Weinberg, Distinguished University Professor in the Department of Astronomy. Weinberg studies the large scale structure of the universe, dark energy and dark matter, the formation and evolution of galaxies and quasars, and the intergalactic medium. He also is a member of Ohio State’s Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics.

The methodology that determines the list draws on the data and analysis performed by bibliometric experts and data scientists at the Institute for Scientific Information at Clarivate. It also uses the tallies to identify the countries and research institutions where these scientific elite are based.
