Mathew Coleman, professor, and interim chair in the Department of Geography, has been appointed chair of the department for a four-year term beginning July 1, 2023.

An expert in geopolitics, immigration and the geography of law, Coleman’s current research focuses primarily on immigration law politics, specifically issues related to the U.S. – Mexico border.

Coleman earned a BA in Political Science from École d’Etudes Politiques, Université d’Ottawa and another BA in Political Sciences from Carleton University before earning his MA in Political Economy from Carleton University and his PhD from the University of California at Los Angeles.
