Carstens appointed chair of Department of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology
Bryan Carstens, professor in the Department of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology, has been appointed chair of the department for a four-year term, effective July 1, 2022. Carstens, who has been with Ohio State since 2012 and was vice chair of administration and research for the department from 2017-2021, is an expert in species delimitation and systematic biology. Research in his lab uses computational approaches to shed light on the factors that promote the formation of biodiversity. His research has recently been published in journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Systematic Biology, and Evolution. Carstens heads the Tetrapods Collection at Ohio State’s Museum of Biological Diversity, is the outgoing Editor of Systematic Biology, and is a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He received his MS from Michigan State University and his PhD from the University of Idaho.
