Atmospheric Sciences (BS)
The atmospheric sciences major focuses on exploring systems that determine our weather and climate. Students learn about the interactions between the Earth's surface and the atmosphere that often lead to severe storms, droughts and floods, and global climate change. The program's curriculum fulfills the 1340 Series curricular requirements established by the American Meteorological Society.

The atmospheric sciences program at Ohio State is one of the top five programs in the country and is the highest ranked program in Ohio. Students have access to renowned research and laboratory facilities, including a forecasting lab with AWIPS II and GR2Analyst software installed on each computer. The curriculum fulfills the 1340 Series curricular requirements established by the American Meteorological Society. This coursework is required to apply for meteorology positions within the National Weather Service and other offices within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
What can you do with this degree?
Atmospheric sciences graduates are prepared for careers in operational meteorology, broadcast meteorology and meteorology positions in both the public and private sectors. The program is also sufficiently flexible to meet the needs of undergraduates who are interested in careers in climatic research, environmental monitoring, forensic meteorology, applications development and the military.
